A young woman was terrified. She had been kidnapped and was being held captive in a dark room. She didn’t know who had taken her or why, but she was sure that they meant her harm.
She sat on the floor, her knees drawn up to her chest, and tried to control her breathing. She closed her eyes and prayed. “God,” she said, “I’m so scared. I don’t know what to do.”
She opened her eyes and looked around the room. She saw a small window high up on the wall. She stood up and went over to the window. She looked out, but she couldn’t see anything. It was too dark.
She sat back down on the floor and started to cry. She didn’t know what else to do. She felt so alone and scared.
Suddenly, she heard a voice. “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God,” the voice said.
The young woman looked up. She saw a light in the room. She stood up and walked towards the light. As she got closer, she saw that it was a man. He was standing in the doorway, and he was smiling at her.
“Who are you?” the young woman asked.
“I Am God,” the man said. “And I am here to help you.”
The young woman felt a sense of peace wash over her. She knew that she was safe now. She knew that God would take care of her.
God took the young woman by the hand and led her out of the room. He took her to a safe place, where she could stay until she was ready to go home.
The young woman was so grateful to God for helping her. She knew that she would never be the same after this experience. She had learned that God is always with us, even in the darkest of times. He will always help us, if we just ask.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10
